Daniel Critchlow-Whitaker
Dan’s poetry reflects the Yorkshire landscapes that served as a formative influence, with a coherent playfulness that draws readers into an unembellished yet fantastical world.
Currently, Dan is working on Sea Glass for Eyes, a larger collection of poetry exploring the experience of losing an older sibling at a young age. Using simple language and a deliberately small vocabulary, the poems frame loss through the eyes of a child, often evoking striking and uncomfortable imagery.
Balancing creative and scientific pursuits, Dan earned a PhD in polymer chemistry from the University of Cambridge in 2022 and now serves as a senior scientist for a company developing a sustainable, plastic- and animal-free leather alternative.
This unique blend of expertise also informs a debut novel in progress. The story envisions a world where plastic has stopped functioning, leading to the collapse of modern society. Efforts to find a publisher for this innovative work are currently underway.
