Melody and Handing on our History

Melody Sproates has been working alongside Equal Arts on a heritage project called ‘Handing on Our History.’ The project celebrates the artists and activists who were part of the North East’s queer arts, punk and music scene in the 1980s.

Melody has been interviewing several people who made history, including Julie Ballands, a filmmaker and digital storyteller who has in turn celebrated the queer women who were DIY cultural pioneers. 

The project will tour North East PRIDE festivals in 2021.
