James at ISPA Congress
Squad grad James Varney is attending the Manchester 2023 International Society for the Performing Arts Congress, as part of a panel of young artists. The ISPA Congress is an international event, hosting over 350 delegates representing arts institutions from across the globe.
The theme of the Manchester 2023 Congress is ‘Co-creating the future’. James was invited to be part of the panel through his involvement in Contact’s Future Fires programme, and his work delivering We Live Here, a co-created community arts project in Hulme, Manchester. With the other artists, he will host a roundtable discussion, ‘Brewing ideas’, responding to the panel talks on the Wednesday of the conference, and inviting attendees to make commitments for the future.
At the Congress’s Closing Reception, James and collaborator Clodagh Chapman will present their ‘Co-created Co-reportage Co-presentation’, a creative response to the discussions had throughout the conference.
